After being vibrated and baked and then demolded, dry materials often exhibit localized areas with low or no strength, which can easily lead to tundish collapse and adversely affect continuous casting production. The main reasons for the absence of strength or low strength in dry materials are as follows:
1. Due to its high specific surface area, the fine powder readily absorbs moisture and becomes damp. 2. Uneven mixing of the binder: When producing dry-mix materials, various particles, fine powders, and binders need to be combined and thoroughly mixed. Sometimes, this mixing process can become uneven due to factors such as inadequate mixing equipment or human error. As a result, some portions of the dry-mix material may lack binder altogether or have very little binder content, leading to localized weakness after baking and demolding.
3. Problems caused by baking furnaces: Since most tundish baking furnaces used in steel plants are gas-fired, prolonged use can lead to significant buildup of tar in the pipelines or damage to the burners, resulting in poor localized heating performance and consequently low or no strength.
Solution: First, ensure the baking performance of the tundish heater by regularly purging the gas pipelines to remove tar and dust, and promptly replacing any damaged burners. Second, ensure that the dry materials are thoroughly dried and uniformly mixed.
