Coal powder burner flame characteristics and optimization of rotary kiln temperature distribution

2025-07-11

Coal powder burner flame characteristics: Temperature, length, and position directly affect clinker quality and kiln life. Axial flow and swirl flow synergistically control the flame shape, and the coal powder consumption and primary air volume need to be precisely matched. Optimizing the burner position can stabilize the kiln's temperature distribution, avoid ring formation, and ensure the efficient and safe operation of the rotary kiln.

Coal powder burner flame characteristics These factors not only directly affect the output and quality of the materials calcined in the rotary kiln, but are also closely related to the service life of the refractory materials. At the same time, the temperature distribution inside the rotary kiln is also significantly affected by the characteristics of the coal powder burner flame; irregular kiln skin adhesion in the transition zone can easily lead to deformation of the cylinder.

Structure and function of the burner In the rotary kiln, the coal powder burner adjusts the flame intensity to ensure the quality of clinker firing. Axial flow and swirl flow are key parts of the burner. Axial flow is responsible for inducing secondary air and coal powder, ensuring that the two are fully mixed and obtain the necessary momentum. The magnitude of this momentum depends on the air volume and the wind speed at the burner outlet. The pressure of the swirl flow needs to be higher than the pressure of the coal flow, and its amount depends on the degree of coal powder dispersion, directly determining the thickness of the flame. Axial flow plays a dominant role, while swirl flow plays a supporting role. 。

Factors affecting the flame The amount of coal powder directly affects the flame length. When the amount of coal powder is increased, the flame length will be correspondingly extended; when it is reduced, the flame will become shorter. In order to maintain the length and temperature of the flame, while adjusting the amount of coal powder, the amount of primary air should also be increased accordingly. This is because the synergistic change in the amount of coal powder and the amount of primary air is crucial for maintaining the flame properties.

Regulation of the temperature distribution in the rotary kiln The temperature distribution inside the rotary kiln can be indirectly inferred from the temperature on the surface of the cylinder. Influencing factors of temperature distribution: Usually, the temperature of the burning zone is lower than that of the transition zone. This is because in the burning zone, the soluble minerals in the raw materials melt at a sufficiently high flame temperature and adhere to the burning zone, forming a certain thickness, thereby reducing the temperature of the burning zone.

Ring formation at the rear and its treatment The problem of ring formation at the rear frequently occurs in rotary kilns. Its causes are complex and may involve the fineness of the coal powder, the amount of coal used, the content of alumina and harmful components in the raw materials, the amount of liquid phase, and the complete combustion of volatile matter in the coal powder. The ring formation problem not only involves the rationality of the temperature in the burning and transition zones, but also means that the air volume distribution of the burner needs to be adjusted to improve the temperature distribution, thereby gradually alleviating the problem.

Optimization of the burner installation position The burner position has a crucial impact on the operational stability and temperature distribution of the kiln. A reasonable burner position can simplify operation and ensure stable temperature. Conversely, if the position is inappropriate, it may cause a series of problems. Therefore, when adjusting the burner position, multiple factors such as raw materials, fuel, blending, quality, and output need to be considered comprehensively to find the most reasonable parameter settings to ensure the long-term, safe, and stable operation of the rotary kiln.
