Magnetite Rotary Kiln

2025-08-30

1. Working Principle

The principle of roasting magnetite is to convert iron elements into magnetite ( Fe₃O₄ ) , while releasing oxygen molecules. This process is usually carried out in equipment such as rotary kilns, through fuel sprayed from the rotary kiln burner The high-temperature flue gas generated by combustion heats the ore to a specific temperature, promoting the chemical reaction.

Specific reaction

Magnetite's main component is ferric oxide ( Fe₃O₄ ), which reacts with oxygen at high temperatures:
Fe₃O₄ + O₂ → 2Fe₂O₃ , The produced iron oxide ( Fe₂O₃ ) can be further reduced (e.g., by adding coke) to convert back to magnetite or magnetic hematite.

Application scenarios

Roasted magnetite has higher magnetism and is commonly used in electromagnetic equipment, computer hard drives, and other fields. Additionally, this process can convert weakly magnetic ores (such as hematite) into strongly magnetic ores, improving subsequent sorting efficiency.  ‌

Raw materials enter the kiln cylinder from the high end of the kiln tail through the feeding pipe, which is inclined and rotates slowly. Due to the inclination and rotation of the kiln body, the material rolls circumferentially and moves axially from the high end to the low end, achieving uniform mixing and reaction; fuel is sprayed from the kiln head, producing high temperatures. Heat is transferred to the material through flame radiation, hot gas convection, and kiln brick conduction. The material undergoes preheating, decomposition, sintering, and cooling processes inside the kiln, completing physical and chemical changes, finally forming. Roasting temperature 850 ℃ Raw magnetite ore.
