Desulfurization gypsum is an industrial by-product obtained from the desulfurization treatment of flue gas after burning sulfur-containing fuels (such as coal, oil, etc.). Its main component is calcium sulfate dihydrate ( CaSO₄·2H₂O ). Since it cannot be used directly, it is usually prepared into hemihydrate gypsum ( CaSO₄·0.5H₂O , industrially known as calcined gypsum), which involves the calcination process. 。
The calcination process of desulfurization gypsum is mainly divided into two categories: high-temperature rapid calcination and low-temperature slow calcination. The high-temperature rapid calcination process usually uses a heat source above 600℃ ; the material stays in the calcination device for a very short time, only a few seconds. Under this process, the surface temperature of the gypsum particles rises rapidly, while the internal temperature varies due to different particle sizes. The drawbacks are unstable product phase composition, too fast setting speed, and higher standard consistency water demand.
Low-temperature slow calcination process (calcination temperature: 150-200 ℃) focuses more on the stability and uniformity of product quality. The equipment for low-temperature slow calcination mainly includes stir-fry pans, indirect rotary kilns, and indirect fluidized furnaces. These devices use built-in heating tubes to indirectly heat the desulfurization gypsum, with heat sources generally being steam, heat transfer oil, or hot flue gas. Because it is indirect heating, the heat transfer rate between the material and the heat source is slower, and the gypsum is slowly heated and dehydrated to form hemihydrate gypsum. The advantage of low-temperature slow calcination is uniform and stable product quality. ， The building gypsum powder produced by low-temperature slow calcination has stable quality and phase composition, suitable for producing plaster, bonding gypsum, and other gypsum cementitious materials.
