I. Heavy oil fuel concept: Heavy oil is the remaining heavy oil after extracting gasoline and diesel from crude oil. It is characterized by its large molecular weight and high viscosity. The specific gravity of heavy oil is generally between 0.82 and 0.95, and the calorific value is between 10000 and 11000 kcal/kg. Its components are mainly hydrocarbons, in addition to some sulfur and trace amounts of inorganic compounds. Color: dark black, State: liquid, Properties: viscous and non-volatile.
Heavy oil contains a large amount of combustible components, with 86%~89% carbon and 10%~12% hydrogen. The remaining components, nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur, are very small. Heavy oil has a very high calorific value, generally 40000~42000 kJ/kg. It has a high combustion temperature and strong flame radiation capacity.
II. In addition to requiring high calorific value for heavy oil used as fuel, the following requirements are also required:
(1) Low viscosity. This facilitates pipeline transportation and improves combustion efficiency by atomizing the spray. Because heavy oil has a high wax content and high viscosity, it needs to be preheated to 100℃ or 150℃ or higher to reduce viscosity and enhance fluidity.
(2) Low pour point. The general solidification temperature of heavy oil is 22~36℃; for heavy oil with high wax content and high pour point, appropriate heating measures should be taken to facilitate transportation and loading and unloading.
(3) High flash point temperature. A higher preheating temperature can be used to facilitate transportation and atomization. The flash point of general heavy oil is between 180 and 330℃, which is higher than the required preheating temperature.
(4) Low mechanical impurities and water content in the oil. High impurity content and water content not only reduce the calorific value of heavy oil, but also cause nozzle clogging and flame fluctuation during use. Therefore, filtration is required to improve the combustion effect.
(5) Low sulfur content. The general sulfur content is 0.15%~0.30%, but some heavy oil contains sulfur as high as 2%, which causes adverse consequences during use.
III. Characteristics of heavy oil rolling mill furnaces and aluminum melting furnaces:
(1) Heavy oil fuel uses compressed air as the atomizing medium to ensure that the fuel and combustion air are fully mixed, ensuring the stability and continuity of the combustion flame.
(2) The heavy oil burner has a built-in ignition burner, which uses high calorific value fuel (natural gas or liquefied gas) as a pilot flame. First ignite the small burner, and after the burner combustion is stable, switch to the fuel oil burner to improve the success rate of heavy oil fuel ignition.
(3) The heavy oil pipeline and intermediate buffer tank need to adopt electric heating to enhance the fluidity of the fuel oil, which facilitates mixing and combustion with the combustion air.
