Converter gas is a medium-heat-value gaseous fuel within steel enterprises. It can be used alone as fuel for industrial kilns, or it can be combined with coke oven gas, blast furnace gas, and producer gas to form mixed gases with various calorific values. Converter gas contains a large amount of carbon monoxide, which is highly toxic, and leakage must be strictly prevented during storage, transportation, and use.

During the converter steelmaking process, carbon in the molten iron reacts with the injected oxygen at high temperatures to generate a mixed gas of carbon monoxide and a small amount of carbon dioxide. The recovered top-blown converter gas contains 60-80% carbon monoxide, 15-20% carbon dioxide, and nitrogen, hydrogen, and trace amounts of oxygen. The generation of converter gas is not uniform during a smelting process, and its composition also varies. Usually, the gas recovered from multiple smelting processes is input into a gas holder, mixed, and then supplied to users.

  Converter Gas Burner

The Zhongwei ZW series converter gas burner adopts (single) multi-head internal mixing technology, with a built-in ignition burner, commonly known as a pilot flame, ignition pilot, or guide pilot. An automatic ignition device first ignites the small burner. After the ignition burner burns stably, it automatically switches to the main gas burner (i.e., the converter gas burner), preventing a large accumulation of converter gas. If it encounters an open flame, a "burst" phenomenon may occur. Converter gas burners are suitable for industrial kilns, rotary kilns, dryers, hot blast stoves, baking ovens, and other heating applications, with power ranging from 10 to 3000 million kcal. Customized options are available.

Performance Characteristics of Converter Gas Burners

  1. Low calorific value of fuel type, approximately 1400 Kcal/Nm³, allowing for automatic ignition.

  2. The usual gas design pressure is 5-15 KPa.

  3. It is usually used in negative pressure combustion furnaces.

  4. Two-stage fire, proportional adjustment with damper, proportional adjustment with variable frequency, touch screen digital control, and PLC variable frequency proportional control systems can be configured according to user requirements.

  5. Separate channel control for gas and damper, equipped with explosion-proof pneumatic valve groups, accurately controlling the air/gas ratio to achieve gas saving.

  6. Equipped with flame detection and flameout protection, automatic ignition, valve leak detection, overtemperature and overpressure protection, and status parameter display functions.

  7. The control system follows standard communication protocols and can communicate with the user's upper-level system.

  8. Without the automatic control system, manual operation allows for normal combustion and easy adjustment.

  9. The valve group of the converter gas burner uses explosion-proof pneumatic shut-off valves or regulating valves, which can achieve automatic control based on temperature.
